Expanding the Benefits of Implant Therapy: Implant-Retained Removable Partial Dentures
نویسنده
چکیده
The multitude of benefits patients derive from implant-based therapy has been well documented for more than 20 years. Implant-based modalities have expanded the options for replacing teeth and returning function in both partial and fully edentulous situations. This article is not intended to review the predictability of fixed implant-supported restorations or the overwhelming health, psychological, and functional benefits derived from removable overdenture therapy. This article will present the clinical and social advantages of an alternative treatment option—implant-retained removable partial dentures— that allows more patients to benefit from implant-based care. T he patient benefits derived from implant-based therapy through the predictability of fixed implant-supported restorations, as well as the health, psychological, and functional benefits of overdenture therapy are well documented.1-3 There has been significantly less attention to the outstanding clinical and social advantages of alternative options that allow more patients to benefit from implant-based care. Implant-retained removable partial dentures (RPDs) have made treatment options available to patients who previously may not have been able to benefit from implant dentistry because of 2 F U N C T I O N A L E S T H E T I C S & R E S T O R A T I V E D E N T I S T R Y : Series 2, Number 3 Practical Applications: A LT E R N AT I V E T R E AT M E N T O P T I O N S Expanding the Benefits of Implant Therapy: Implant-Retained Removable Partial Dentures ROBERT C. Review of Implant Support for the Distal Extension Removable Partial Dentures
Partially edentulous patients with missing premolars and molars have been conventionally rehabilitated using the free-end removable partial dentures (RPDs). With the advancements in implant dentistry, the benefits of implant-retained/supported mandibular implant overdentures relative to conventional mandibular dentures with bilateral extensions (Class I Kennedy) have now been extensively invest...
متن کاملCase Report: Implant-Supported Removable Partial Denture In A Mandibular Kennedy CL II: A Clinical Report
Abstract The implant-supported removable partial dentures should be an alternative to conventional removable partial dentures and implant-supported fixed partial prostheses when the implant’s insertion is confined by bone height and thickness. Placing a single implant in the posterior region would modify the Kennedy Class II configuration to a Kennedy Class III and increase the stability a...
متن کاملStress Distribution in Natural Tooth and Implant Supported Removable Partial Denture with Different Attachment Types: A Photoelastic Analysis
Background and Aim: Different attachment designs have been developed to connect implant to natural teeth in partial dentures; however, adequate studies have not been performed to determine stress distribution patterns in these designs. The present study aimed to assess stress distribution patterns in natural tooth and implant supported removable partial denture with different attachment designs...

The absence of lower posterior teeth makes the planning and control of removable partial dentures difficult since support is provided by teeth and mucosa, which present different anatomical characteristics. The planning of removable partial dentures supported on a distal implant renders tooth-implant-supported rather than tooth-mucosa-support dentures an option in distal extension cases. In the...
متن کاملImplants in conjunction with removable partial dentures: a literature review.
Although the benefits of implant-borne removable prostheses are readily apparent for the fully edentulous patient and have been well documented, there is a paucity of studies concerning the combination of implants with removable partial dentures in partially edentulous patients. The aim of this article is to review the literature regarding implants with removable partial dentures and evaluate t...
